German Dugout Near Pont-a-Mousson - St. Mihiel Front
Title
German Dugout Near Pont-a-Mousson - St. Mihiel Front
Creator
Hoffman, Peter B.
Description
A heavily wooded area on the side of a hill opens up to reveal a German trench during the first World War. The ground in front of the dugout is cleared of trees, but the trees surround the sides and the back of the dugout. There is an Allied solder sitting on a bench and looking towards the photographer. He is wearing his cap and uniform, as well as a long coat that covers his knees. His left leg is extended forward and his right is bent. There is a door that leads into the dugout, which enters into the German bunkers. Outside of the dugout is a stone wall. Above the doorway is a plethora of small branches that are lined up together and there is a diamond shape to the work. There are wooden fences that go along the walkway to the dugout.
