Old East Dubuque Schools, now Bell Retirement Community, sits high on a bluff and overlooks the city of East Dubuque and the Mississippi River. The building is Romanesque revival style. The school is within a residential area and sits atop a bluff. Houses are scattered all over the area and more buildings sit in the background at lower levels. The photographer is taking the photograph from above the school, on a hill. Trees are scattered around and are all leafless.
