Description

“Father Richard Nagle, living in a farm house near Monona and serving a wide area, saw to the building of the first Catholic Church in the town in the 1860s. About the same time, James McGregor gave the Catholic parish a parcel of land at the head of Main Street, where Father B. C. Linehan caused a school and Sister’s home ot be built in 1868. Three Sisters of Charity came from Dubuque to conduct the school, which continued for 25 years. When the enrollment dwindled, the school was closed in 1894.”
