A crowd of men, women and children appear to be listening to a speaker. The photographer, Methodist minister Reverend H. J. Loemker, indicates in his notes that the featured speaker, on June 27, 1916, is “Lawrence MacGahan, a brave young man, salon keeper’s son who walked 9,792 miles for the Prohibition National Committee, on his way to Minneapolis, Minnesota.” This gentleman’s name may also be spelled “Mc Gahan.” A newspaper account indicates that some 12,000 people attended this event.
