[Entering the cave]
Title
[Entering the cave]
Creator
Loemker, Herman J., 1868-1937
Description
Two young men, dressed in long sleeved shirts, caps and heavy coveralls, are seated on rocks beside a hole in the ground. Their legs are dangling in the cave entrance. Based on the photographer’s notes for LO 253, the man on the left is probably Reverend Loemker’s son, LeRoy, and the location of the cave is probably near Dubuque, Iowa. The cave opening has been ringed with rocks. The top of a ladder is protruding from the hole. A heavy rope secures the top of the ladder to a large rock beside the hole. Livestock are visible grazing in the field near the men. A partially visible number is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide
