[On a railroad bridge crossing the Mississippi River]

Loemker, Hermann J., 1868-1937

A man dressed in a suit, white shirt, tie and bowler hat is standing in a north-facing profile view on the railroad bridge across the Mississippi River. The bridge officially opened on New Year's Day, 1869 at a cost of over one million dollars. It has been remodeled, but is still in operation today. The image was taken from the east side of the River. A portion of the passenger bridge across the Mississippi River may be seen on the left side of the image. A small stone structure located on the west shore of the River is visible underneath, and to the left of the floor of the passenger bridge. The number 1265b is written on a label which has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide.
